Flight Information Service (FIS)

Flight Information Service (FIS) Flight Information Service (FIS) is established to give advice and information useful for the safe, orderly and efficient conduct of flights. This service is provided to all aircraft subject to air traffic control, as well as to other flights with radio communication established.

During the provision of flight information services, the following information is transmitted to pilots:

General information:
  • Short-term dangers and restrictions concerning air traffic which cannot be timely published,
  • Information on en-route weather phenomena which may affect the safety of aircraft operations (SIGMET),
  • Information on en-route weather phenomena which may affect the safety of aircraft operations at low altitudes (AIRMET),
  • Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) for Zagreb Airport.
Specific information relating to individual cases:
  • Special activities in the airspace,
  • Restricted function of: Radio navigation equipment, Radiotelephony  frequencies, Aerodromes and related equipment,
  • Meteorological reports.
 Traffic information
 
 Acceptance and transmission of the following messages:
  • Flight plans and related messages: Changes to flight plans, Cancellation of flight plans, Departure report, Arrival report, Delay messages,
  • Air reports,
  • State telegrams.
Navigation assistance for VFR flights

Navigation assistance for VFR flights is provided in the form of recommendation, and the pilots still remain responsible for obstacle separation as well as for maintaining a minimum safe altitude and for flying in visual meteorological conditions (VMC).

Flight information service is provided by air traffic control units (TWR, APP and ACC) and a Flight Information Centre (Zagreb FIC) as a special sector within the Zagreb Area Control Centre. The provision of air traffic control service has priority over the provision of flight information service. 

Flight information service is provided 24 hours daily 7 days a week within the Zagreb Flight Information Region (FIR) and other areas, pursuant to international agreements.
