It was our pleasure to host Mr. Koen Milis, the Chairman of the Performance Review Board (PRB) of the European Commission’s Single European Sky, who met with the Director General of Croatia Control Ltd. (CCL) Mario Kunovec-Varga and his team on July 17, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visit provided an opportunity to present CCL, its key responsibilities, and its strong operational performance, achieved despite a range of significant challenges. These include highly seasonal traffic demand that has, for several consecutive years, substantially exceeded EUROCONTROL’s traffic forecasts, as well as adverse summer weather conditions. These results reflect the professionalism, expertise, and dedication of our staff, whose commitment enables CCL to consistently deliver safe, efficient, and reliable operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCroatia has experienced a massive surge in air traffic, far exceeding even the most optimistic forecasts. They managed to successfully absorb this heavy traffic increase without letting operational costs spike excessively. This is a very remarkable achievement,\u201d Koen Milis pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting also addressed the operational challenges facing the European ATM network and the priorities for the upcoming Reference Period 5 (RP5) performance framework. We discussed the importance of a regulatory approach that strengthens resilience, supports investment, and provides sufficient flexibility to respond to changing operational circumstances while maintaining network performance and the highest standards of safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We greatly value the constructive dialogue and shared understanding of both the challenges and the broader operational context. Such exchanges are essential to achieving our common objective of a safe, efficient, and resilient European ATM network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
