  • FAB CE Agreement signed
    2011_05_05_FAB_CE.jpg
The Agreement on the Establishment of Functional Airspace Block Central Europe (FAB CE) was signed on 5 May 2011 at Brdo pri Kranju in Slovenia. On behalf of the Republic of Croatia the Agreement was signed by Danijel Mileta, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, together with the representatives of competent ministries of Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia. Within the process of its accession to the European Union and adjustment of national legislation with the acquis, one of the obligations to be fulfilled by the Republic of Croatia is the integration of its airspace into a functional airspace block where the procedures of cooperation and coordination among all member states shall be implemented, thus contributing to smoother air traffic flow, as well as to reduced delays and costs. The establishment of functional airspace blocks is part of the EU initiative for the creation of the Single European Sky (SES) aimed at optimization and enhancement of air traffic in Europe.

Commissioning of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Rijeka Airport on 20 July 2010 marked completion of the planned modernisation of infrastructure, facilities and equipment under the Project of Construction of Navigation Facilities and Infrastructure at that airport. The works also included installation of the Thales ILS 420 System and equipping of the LLZ, MM and OM facilities. Rijeka Airport is thus equipped with the first from a new series of ILS systems procured.

  • Croatia Control Ltd a new member of COOPANS
    coopans-355.jpg
Croatia Control Ltd will be the fifth organization in Europe to become a member of COOPANS, a cooperative organization for the common procurement of air navigation systems.
Croatia's formal entry into the group took place on 16 June 2010, when the membership application was signed at the International Air Traffic Services CANSO’s annual meeting in Oslo. Having signed it, Croatia becomes an accession member of COOPANS, which will thus comprise five European Air Navigation Service Providers – from Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Austria and Croatia. Within a year the country will be a full member of COOPANS. Croatia has a modern system for air traffic control and can bring valuable knowledge and experience to the group. We bid them a warm welcome to COOPANS, says Morten Dambaek Director General of Naviair and Chairman of COOPANS CSG.
COOPANS (COOPeration between ANS-providers) has adopted a common managerial approach where all ANSPs act as one organisation together with Thales with a focus on common success and better value for our customer airlines.
The harmonisation of functionalities and joint investments enable the implementation of an advanced and unified Air Traffic Control system.
By upgrading their legacy system to a single mature ATC software, COOPANS founding members foresee:
    - Common stepwise evolutions
    - Optimisation of life cycle costs
    - Sharing the same system and support baseline for operation and maintenance
    - Efficient and effective European ATC evolutions
COOPANS has structured the development and deployment process around joint activities such as common specification, operational documentation, validation, training materials and generic safety cases. Members maximise benefits using common tools, methods, and operational procedures throughout the system life cycle.

  • Croatia Control Ltd concluded a contract for the upgrade and extension of the main ATM system (CROATMS) - On 27 May 2010 Croatia Control Ltd concluded a contract for the upgrade and extension of the main ATM system (CROATMS) with Thales ATM. The existing CroATMS has been used for efficient provision of air traffic services (ATS) in the Zagreb Area Control Centre, including its Aerodrome and Approach Control Units. Extension of this system to the regional ATC centres in Dubrovnik, Pula, Split and Zadar, will result in the replacement of local radar data processing systems, and the CROATMS will eventually cover Croatian airspace in whole. Integration into a single system will significantly contribute to the increase of safety and quality, as well as to efficient provision of air navigation services. Although the project includes a wide scope of various activities, Thales ATM has undertaken to supply the complete equipment in an exceptionally short period of 13 months.
The existing system will be also upgraded to comply with the requirements of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 633/2007 laying down the requirements for the application of a Flight Message Transfer Protocol (FMTP) by April 2011.

  • ARTAS V7 - On 18 March 2010 a new ARTAS V7 was commissioned, which marked the completion of hardware and software upgrade to the existing surveillance data system (ARTAS V6). ARTAS V7 is one of the most sophisticated systems of its kind in the world. A new version of software support enables the processing of data received from PSR, SSR, Mode S and ADS B sensors, while the hardware modernisation enables future software upgrades on a regular basis.

  • 13th TUG Conference in Dubrovnik - Croatia Control Ltd hosted the 13th Thales Users Group (TUG) Conference in Dubrovnik from 11th to 15th October 2009. The event has been organised every 18 months since 1991 by customers of Thales's air traffic management activities. This year's conference was attended by Air Navigation Service Provider delegates from 30 countries, with three newcomers joining the TUG community: Brazil, Serbia and Tahiti. More on TUG2009.

  • SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS - The installation of a new software version for the Croatian Air Traffic Management System (CroATMS) in the Zagreb Flight Information Region on 9 April 2009 successfully rounded a years-long implementation of several projects related to air traffic surveillance and radar systems. This significant project covered the installation of new Mode-S MSSR systems at the Kozjak and Psunj radar stations. The newly built radar station at Psunj represents the latest standard in the construction of similar projects; it is completely automated, autonomously powered and monitored H24 by the CCL's Central Monitoring and Control Department, via a network of new telecommunication systems. The data collected by these radar stations have been integrated into the Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, which greatly contributes to safety and quality in the provision of air navigation services.

  • VOR/DME 'SPL' AT ČIOVO - Following a comprehensive reconstruction, the new VOR/DME 'SPL' system was commissioned on the island of Čiovo on 12 March 2009. As part of the modernisation of ground navigation systems, the facilities, sites and related infrastructure were restored, with the new systems installed. The identical works are in progress on the VOR/DME 'ZAG' facility near Vrbovec, and its launch is expected during May.

  • ILS AND DME AT OSIJEK AIRPORT - Having commissioned the ILS (Instrument Landing System) and DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) at Osijek Airport on 15 January 2009, Croatia Control Ltd completed the construction of NAV (Radio Navigation) facilities and infrastructure at that airport. This also marked the completion of reconstructing the facilities devastated during the Homeland War. Within the scope of this important project, the LLZ (Localizer), GP (Glide Path) and MM (Middle Marker) facilities were finished, equipped with latest technology as well as linked by optical cables, and the electrical infrastructure was reinstated.

  • On 4 September 2008 Croatia Control Ltd concluded a contract for the procurement of radio navigation systems with Thales ATM GmbH, Germany. Having signed the contract, Thales ATM commits to deliver ground navigation systems (NAVAIDS) aimed to enhance route navigation, to properly fit regional airports in Split, Rijeka, Zadar and Lošinj, and to implement the DME/DME-based P-RNAV navigation procedures in approach to Zagreb Airport. Thus, Croatia will join a group of European countries that have already set up such procedures in approach to hub airports. The provision of this navigation equipment, which comprises ILS, VOR/DME and DMS systems, is a follow-up to the comprehensive modernisation that started this spring with renovation and construction of the infrastructure and installation of new ILS and DME systems at Osijek Airport.

  • The Croatian Air Traffic Controllers Association (CROATCA) and Croatia are hosts to the 48th IFATCA Annual World Conference, to be held in Dubrovnik,  20 – 24  April 2009, at the Croatia Hotel, Cavtat.
