Air Traffic Management

Croatia Control Ltd is, pursuant to the Air Traffic Law and the Act on Establishing the Croatian Air Navigation Services, a single entity responsible for air traffic management in Croatian airspace and, subject to international agreements, in part of the international airspace above the Adriatic.

Within the framework of Air Traffic Management (ATM), and in cooperation with relevant authorities, airspace users and international organizations, Croatia Control Ltd ensures the performance of airborne (navigation, communication and surveillance) and ground-based functions (air traffic services, airspace management and air traffic flow management) required for safe and efficient aircraft movements during all phases of operations. 
Aiming to assure safe, orderly and efficient air traffic management, Croatia Control Ltd, within structural units of the ATM Division, provides the performance of the following functions:  

  • Air Traffic Services (ATS) - include various services, such as the provision of flight information services, alerting services, air traffic advisory services, and air traffic control services (aerodrome, approach and area control),
  • Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) - the function established to support the performance of safe, orderly and expeditious air traffic flow, ensuring maximum utilisation of air traffic control capacities and with a traffic volume compatible with the declared capacities,
  • Airspace Management (ASM) - a planning function performed by Croatia Control Ltd in cooperation with civil and military aviation authorities, with the primary objective of optimising the safe utilisation of available airspace by dynamic, time-shared distribution and periodically by distribution between various categories of airspace users based on their short-term needs.

 
The Zagreb Area Control Centre and regional ATC Centres are, within the provision of air traffic services to airspace users, also responsible for: 

  • Air Traffic Control Services (ATC) - aimed to prevent collisions between aircraft, between aircraft and obstacles on aerodrome manoeuvring surfaces, as well as to expedite and maintain orderly air traffic flow,
  • Flight Information Services (FIS) - aimed to provide advisories and information needed for safe, orderly and efficient performance of flights,
  • Alerting Services (ALRS) - aimed to report competent authorities about an aircraft that needs search and rescue services, and to assist them during search and rescue actions, as required.
